Why Choose Us
Retailers come in all shapes and sizes - at James Insurance we know that your insurance should be as unique as your business is.
The Basics Of Retail Insurance
Commercial General Liability (CGL) - This is the part of your policy that pays for those slips and falls that happen due to your business. It does have a few notable exclusions such as: Professional liability, pollution, criminal or intentional acts, Workers Compensation, Abuse, Automobiles, damage to your work and more. It is important you understand what is excluded on your policy, as these exclusions can be added back based on your business. Please check with us to make sure you have the coverage you need.
Building - these are insured under a Broad policy or a Named Perils policy depending on the use, age, updates and where it is located. A Broad form policy offers much better coverage and should be purchased in most situations.
Contents - Think of all the items you use daily to make your business successful from a bar code scanner, to hangers, desks, chairs, displays, cash register and more. If you rent the building it will also include any improvements you have made to the building including all the flooring, ceiling, walls, signage etc.
Stock - The nature of your business is selling goods, so stock is one of the most important aspects of your policy. It will cover all the goods are you selling, or holding for sale including all the packaging. Policies cover the stock while it is on your property - if you are responsible for the stock while it is in transit you need to let us know so we can ensure it is properly protected.
Vehicles - Do you use your vehicle to run errands for your business? Do deliveries to customers? It is important your vehicle has the correct use on your policy.
Business Interruption - If your building is burned down how long will it take you to rebuild and recover your business? This coverage is vital to you, as it pays for all the expenses you have as you get your business back up and running, as well as lost profits.
Contingent Business Interruption - Do you rely on another store for the majority of your business? Maybe it is a larger store that creates foot traffic for your business, helping your sales on a daily basis. This coverage protects your loss of income if that store you rely on is forced to temporarily close due to a loss.
Tenants Legal Liability - This coverage is important if you rent a building or unit. This covers the damage to the part of the unit/building that you are responsible for if you accidentally caused the loss.
Cyber Coverage - As we come to rely more on technology cyber coverage has become ever more important. Every cyber policy is different, but most will pay for the extra expense if any customer's information is compromised due to a cyber breach.
By no means is this an exhaustive list - every retailers needs are unique as the work they do. Please give our office a call 905-623-4406 and let us help you get the coverage you need.
